rose finn-kelcey

Rose Finn -Kelcey was born in Northampton and has lived and worked in London since 1968. She is a seminal figure in performance and time-based work.

I work in the belief - or - dare that I can continue to reinvent myself and remain a perennial beginner. This questions the convention that artists must limit themselves to the elaboration of motifs and the refining of style in one singular medium. I may play on the expectations and discourses of the art space, yet each work has a pristine integrated identity and a strong sense of irony For many years my work has humorously engaged with the esoteric and the immaterial.

Recent exhibitions have included Chisenhale Gallery (1992), Documenta IX (1992) and the Saatchi Collection (1993). National Maritime Museum, London and Patricia Sloane Gallery, Mexico City, Mexico (2001). Multiple Store, new commission, London and London Soeul, The Total Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, South Korea, and Structurally Sound, Exconventa de Santa Teressa, and the Museo Carrillo Gil, Mexico City / Live in Your Head, British Conceptual Art 1965 - 1975, Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (all in 2000). It Pays to Pray, North Meadow Sculpture Project, Millennium Dome, London (1999).
