Milestones is a three year programme looking at life journeys. This programme focuses what has been an ongoing area of research and interest for Welfare State international (WSI): how we mark significant moments in our lives. The company ask…
Where in our culture do we have the clear water to reflect?

Birthrites is the first part of the Milestones journey. How did we come into this world? Our first impressions of it, our personal stories. Birthrites looks at marking Birth and the creative space made for the newborn and young.

The Ulverston Ensemble are a team of artists who are seeking long term relationships with the whole community. Their purpose is to invent and develop events that are integrated within the economic and cultural life-cycle of the community. In 2002 – 2003, the Ensemble have explored the theme of the newborn and creativity in young children through the Birthrites programme. The Ensemble opened the work by making contact and forming relationships with local childcare organisations: NCH Childrens Charity, COPE who work with parents locally, Local Sure Start groups, Early Excellence Centre on Barrow Island, local schools and nurserys.
